How a PSS shaft seal works
A PSS Type A replaces the stuffing box with a mechanical face seal. The parts that turn with the shaft run against a part that stays still, and water keeps the faces cool.

The rotor turns with the shaft
A 316L stainless-steel rotor clamps to the propeller shaft and spins against a stationary carbon flange.

The bellows holds the faces together
A nitrile rubber bellows clamps over the stern tube. Its pre-load keeps the faces together and absorbs propeller thrust, misalignment and vibration.

Water cools the faces
A hose-barb vent feeds water to the faces to lubricate and cool them. No packing to adjust, and no drips in the bilge.

Questions we're often asked
How do I know which PSS seal fits my boat?
A PSS seal is chosen by two measurements: the propeller shaft diameter, and the outside diameter of the stern tube (shaft log) where the bellows clamps on. Pick your shaft in the seal finder and it lists every stern-tube size, with the range of outside diameters each one fits.
My stern tube measures between two sizes. Which do I choose?
Each seal fits a range of stern-tube outside diameters. Choose the size whose range covers your measurement, or call us on (03) 5973 6444 and we'll confirm the fit before you order.
How long does delivery take?
In-stock seals are dispatched from Mornington, Victoria on business days by Australia Post Express Post. Allow 1–7 business days for delivery after dispatch. Special-order sizes are ordered in for you and dispatched in 2–3 weeks.
Can I return a seal?
Unused, unfitted in-stock seals can be returned within 30 days of delivery in their original packaging. You pay the return postage, and a flat $25 restocking fee applies. Special-order seals can't be returned for a change of mind. Faulty, damaged or incorrect items are returned at our cost for a full refund or a replacement. See shipping and returns.
How often does a PSS seal need servicing?
Inspect the bellows regularly and replace it about every six years with the PSS Maintenance Kit. Never use oil, grease or silicone on the seal: the only assembly lubricant PSS allows is soapy water. Our maintenance guide covers the rest.

Yes. Every price is in Australian dollars and includes GST, and checkout shows the Express Post cost for your postcode before you pay.
