Why genuine PSS, and why sizing matters
A PSS Type A seal is a mechanical face seal: a stainless-steel rotor clamps to your propeller shaft and spins against a stationary carbon flange, while a nitrile rubber bellows fits over the stern tube and is clamped with hose clamps. The bellows pre-load keeps the faces together and compensates for propeller thrust, misalignment and vibration. The result is a completely dripless stern gland — no packing, no constant drips, and far less maintenance than a traditional stuffing box.
Because the seal is sized by two measurements — your propeller shaft diameter and your stern-tube outside diameter — choosing the right one by part number alone is easy to get wrong. Our finder does the work for you: tell it your shaft size and it lists every seal that fits, showing the stern-tube OD range each one covers. Shaft can be given in metric or imperial; stern tube is in imperial, and we show millimetres too.
